Next Right Thing Adventures (NRTA) is a non-profit that offers those in recovery from substance abuse disorders the opportunity for a true wilderness experience.

NRTA provides an introductory course to wilderness backpacking focusing on backcountry travel and camping. With this skill set, participants will have the opportunity to discover increased self-esteem, further confidence in their recovery and life, foster a love for the outdoors, and strengthen relationships in the recovery community.

The free program consists of pre-trip instruction and a three-day, two-night backpacking or camping trip. Destinations include areas in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Kettle Moraine State Forest in Southeastern Wisconsin. We provide recovering individuals everything they need for their next adventure.

FIND YOURSELF ON THE TRAIL.

Founded by Ross Sharkey in 2021, NRTA is the lovechild (mongrel as it may be) of his lifelong love of the outdoors and wild places, and his debt of gratitude owed to the recovery community. Learn more about NRTA and what the program has to offer.

HELP US GROW.

Founded in 2021, NRTA is bringing the wilderness to those in recovery from substance abuse disorders, and we can’t do it without your help. Make a donation, supply us with gear, or become a corporate donor.
